    Anemones Weekly Reflect and Review

12 July 2025 (by Laura Thornton (LauraT))

    Summer 2 Week 6

We've had a full and busy week in Anemones, thanks to the sunny weather!

In maths, we’ve been revisiting key skills from throughout the year. The children explored ABAB patterns, compared objects by weight and practised subitising with their favourite game – the bucket game!

Our phonics focus was on Phase 2 sounds: ck, e, u, and r. The children continued to build their phonological awareness through games, songs, and focused activities.

In the home corner, the children explored dried pasta, using their hands and tools like spoons and scoops. This activity helped develop fine motor skills and provided an opportunity for them to experiment with one-handed tools.

At the playdough table, we used sand playdough and shells to explore the different patterns the shells created.

The tuff tray was full of colour with our coloured shaving foam and oobleck "ice cream" activity. The children used their hands to mix colours and explore textures, and experiment with how colours can change and blend.

In the water tray, we worked together to help clean our toys using brushes and toothbrushes. This simple activity was great for building motor skills and teamwork, and the children took great pride in helping out.

We also took time to reflect on our learning this year. Some of the children's comments included:
    • “I have learnt to write my name.”
    • “I know Miss Beanie’s golden rules – be honest.”
    • “I remember our NELI words.”
    • “I know how to be kind and gentle.”

Splash Day on Wednesday was a real highlight. Everyone got involved and enjoyed cooling off in the water. It was a great way to take advantage of the hot weather.

On Friday, we were thrilled to welcome so many parents to our celebration and picnic. Despite the heat, it was a lovely afternoon and a special way to mark the end of a wonderful year. Thank you for joining us – we’re so proud of everything the children have achieved, and we’re glad you could be part of the celebration.

A reminder that next week, children who will be joining our Coral Reef Reception class will be having 3 visits.

    Settling Visits

Starting Primary school can be both exciting and a little daunting. To support your child with the transition we are inviting the children to have some settling visits and we strongly encourage that all three sessions are attended.

Session 1: Monday 14th July 8.30am -12.00pm Children Stay and Play visit. At 10.15 – 12.00 pm we are inviting all parents to join us for a Stay and Play session including a Scavenger Hunt and a family lunch. All parents and children will receive a free school meal of Macaroni Cheese with side vegetables and a choice of yoghurt or fresh fruit for pudding. If you or your child have any dietary requirements, please email the Reception class email coralreef@stfrideswides.co.uk by Monday 7th July.

Session 2: Tuesday 15th 8.30-11.30 am children only Stay and Play visit

Session 3: Wednesday 16th 8.30-11.30 am children only Stay and Play visit

If your child currently attends our Pre-School and it is their normal day, we will support them to transition back to Pre-School for their afternoon session, however you are welcome to take them home after their Reception visit.

Children do not need to wear school uniform for their visits. Please come to the usual gate for drop offs and collections. The teachers will be waiting to greet them and bring them into school.

We hope you all enjoy the hot weekend ahead!
