    Oceans Reflect and Review

    12 September 2025 (by Beth I)

As mathematicians,  this week we have been continuing with Place Value. The main focus at the moment is to ensure that children get a sense of the size of numbers to 100 and can see clearly the number of tens and ones each number is made up of. In class, children have used a range of tools like Base 10 and Numicon alongside their own drawings and jottings. To extend this, some children further, some children have even looked at numbers to 1,000.

As readers and writers, we have been focusing on our class text ‘Ug Boy Genius’ which interleaves in our topic and history as we explore prehistoric life of the Mesolithic age. We have been looking at the structure of a comic and making predictions about what will happen next whilst using adjectives and verbs. During our independent writing, we have written a diary entry based on a day in the life of the stone age child, whilst focusing on our spelling, punctuation and grammar skills.

As historians, we have started to reflect on what we have already learnt about the stone age. We have focused on how life has changed throughout the stone aged periods (Mesolitic, Neolithic, Palaeolithic). We have then reflected on how committees would have worked together.

Next week, Indian and Pacific will have PE on Monday and Wednesday. Please can your child come to school in their PE kits.

On Thursday 18th, we will be holding a ‘Cake and Curriculum' talk after school. This is a great opportunity for you to see what we are looking to achieve this year and include some helpful ways in which you can best support your child. There will also be an opportunity for you to talk to your child’s teacher if you have any questions. The gates will open at 3pm instead of at 2:50 as previously advertised to ensure all children are dismissed including those who attend afterschool club. The meeting will be held in the lunch hall.

    Have a lovely weekend
