    Oceans Reflect and Review

    19 September 2025 (by Beth I)

    This Week

As readers and writers we have continued with our class text “Ugy boy”. We have been planning to invent some games which could be played in Ug's community. We have continued to look at the life of the Neolithic age and what their settlements would have looked like. We have been acting in a role to try and get an understanding of what this might have looked like.

During our independent writing, we have been using pervasive language to write a formal letter to the author Banji Alexander. We are hoping Banji will visit the school to inspire young readers and talk to us about his life as an author.

Please can you ensure that your child is bringing their school library book daily to help us promote the importance of reading, and so that staff can ensure that children are on the correct book band.

This week in Maths, we have been looking at numbers line up to 10,000. We have been learning about intervals and the difference between numbers to help us understand different values on the number line. We have also begun to estimate values. Next week, we will start looking at comparing, ordering and rounding numbers. Please continue to support your child to practise their times tables daily.

    Family Drop Ins

This year we will be inviting you to drop in and visit your child's classroom each term.  This isn't a formal meeting with the teacher but a chance to meet the team and for your child to show you where they spend a lot of their time each day!  Our first drop in will be Thursday 9th October from 8.10 until 9.  Please make a note in your diary and we hope you can join us.

    Trip

A letter has been sent home about the residential to Wales, if your child is interested in going please can you let us know as soon as possible, as there will be a limited number of places available.

    Curriculum and Home-learning

Thank you to all the parents who attended our Cake and Curriculum session. All the information shared in the session will be on the school website by Monday for all parents and carers to access. If you have any further questions please email oceans@stfridewides.co.uk or speak to your child’s class teacher.

Teachers have assigned tasks on Sumdog and/or sent sheets home. Please support your child to complete the set tasks and continue to read daily.
