The Pod Weekly reflect and review

    26 September 2025 (by Sarah Colverson-Martin (Sarah))

It’s been another busy and exciting week of exploring and learning at The Pod!

    Our Focus Story: The Gruffalo

The children have loved reading and retelling The Gruffalo. They explored the story through sensory play, using real and natural materials. We even tried some Gruffalo-inspired “treats” Black beans for crumble, ice cream cones, and shaving foam “ice cream” (which the children decided didn’t taste quite so nice!).

    Exploring and Investigating

The children created sensory bottles linked to We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. They then used them in the garden to act out the story, practising new words and phrases from last week.
We became magnet detectives, searching through sand to find which hidden objects were magnetic. The children then explored the nursery to test what else would stick to their magnets.

    International Day of Peace

We reflected on what makes us feel peaceful. Here are some of the children’s thoughtful responses:
    “Listening to a story”
“Having cuddles with my big sister”
“Listening to calm music and singing”

To mark the day, we also enjoyed child yoga in the garden. The children stretched tall to reach the sun, stood strong in tree pose, and even roared like lions to open their chests and practise breathing.

    Family Board

Thank you so much for the wonderful family photos you’ve already shared! There’s still plenty of space, so please don’t worry if you haven’t sent one in yet. We want every child and family to feel they belong and matter. Ohana! ❤️

    Reminders for Parents

    • Please make sure all of your child’s belongings are clearly labelled, as many items look alike.

    • A few items have gone missing recently. Please check at home and return anything that may have come back with you by accident.
