    Explorers Reflect and Review

10 October 2025 (by Menna (Menna))

A creative and busy week in Explorers!

    Overview:

As writers, in Beagle we have been looking at the impact of the word choices used within a story, thinking about the sounds used and the level of impact a word choice can have on the reader. Endeavour and Endurance have begun sentence stacking, writing their sentences for ‘it’s never just a child’, a war time take on ‘it’s never just a book’.

As mathematicians, we have been working on addition and subtraction, looking at the inverse and how this can help us to check our working, and looking at word problems - including multi-step problems.

As historians, we have begun to look at world war two. We have looked at key events during the start of the war, creating our own timelines.

On Tuesday, we welcomed Ian Brealy, AKA the Doodlebug who came and delivered a growth mindset art lesson. The children had a fantastic time following instructions to create their own versions of Wallace from Wallace and Gromit.

    Notices:

On Wednesday and Friday we have the trip to Buscot. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore what life was like for the auxiliary soldiers who trained at Buscot and Coleshill during World War Two. You will soon receive an email to confirm which day your child is going. Thank you to those who have paid and/or sent the permission slip into school. If you have paid online permission is automatically granted. If you have not paid online please send the permission slips back asap. Thank you.

As the weather is turning, please remind your child to bring their coat to school. If you have old coats that your child has outgrown and they need a new home, please send them our way and we’ll find them a new home.

    In other news:

Jemima from Magdalen College School has let us know about an exciting event they are holding:

This weekend a new play is debuting at Pegasus Theatre on Magdalen Rd, which explores life as a Year 6 student!

'Marmaduke' writer Carol Peaker is an MCS parent, and the music has been written by our Head of Drama Alex Thomas, so MCS students will be working towards a performance of this play with four schools this year - including some of you! -  as part of our Drama partnership work. Carol is, however, very keen to make a performance pack available for all schools and she has asked me to offer you a discount on coming to see the performances this weekend. A child's ticket will now be £5 - there's a time machine, a talking mouse and an exploding marshmallow - so it's all good fun and games!

If you are interested, please follow the link and use the discount code attached.
