A wet and soggy week in Explorers! We started our week with a talk from Sue at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission who told us about the work of the CWGC and some stories of local soldiers who died in the war. On Tuesday, we started our science topic on inheritance and evolution, looking at characteristics, and which of our features are environmental and which are inherited.
Cook (Y6 from Endeavour and Endurance) and Shackleton (Y5 from Endeavour and Endurance) have been busy reading Olive’s Army, using speech marks correctly and exploring how we can show not tell when writing speech. Cook have continued their work on division, stretching themselves in long division whilst Shackleton have been developing their fraction knowledge. Both classes were given their homework on Thursdays, due in on Wednesdays as we are now marking it on Wednesday afternoon. Please remind your child to come and speak to us in the mornings if they need any help understanding their homework.
As readers and writers, Beagle have been looking at the book Rose Blanche, a story about a girl in a town in Europe during World War Two. We have been exploring the emotions surrounding different stages of the war, and how people react differently. We explored reasons for and against war, and are now putting this into our own poetry. As mathematicians, we have been focusing on converting mixed numbers and improper fractions this week. Beagle have been set a spelling sheet and a maths sheet this week as homework. We currently go through this together on a Friday morning. Please remind your child to bring their packs in, having had a go at the homework, each Friday.
Any donations of coats and shoes are always welcome, please just send them in with your child and we will rehome the items!
