Rockpool Weekly Reflect and Review8 January 2026 (by Lisa Brown (LisaB)) |
Happy New Year!
Wishing you all a very happy new year. We have had a wonderful start to the term and everyone has been very busy. This term we are looking at the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. We will use this book to develop our knowledge and understanding around different foods and healthy eating choices, colours, shapes, numbers, patterns and the life cycle of a butterfly. We will share stories and learn about different insects and their habitats.
This week in phonics we are focused on the letter sound 'n'. The children have been exploring the sound boxes, singing our jolly phonics songs and started to develop their writing skills as they begin to form new letters. We have a range of mark making activities available throughout the day and this week, mixing shaving foam into different colours was a great success.
In maths we have been learning about ABAB patterns, with some children copying patterns, some making their own and others looking for them in their play. It has been a very busy week but we have had lots of learning to do.
Please can we remind parents that pour gate opens at 2:15 to collect the children. Please can we ask that they have a warm coat with hats and gloves to wear in this cold weather. We would also appreciate spare clothes, including shoes, incase they get wet on their way in. Puddle jumping is great fun!
Many thanks
The Rockpool Team
