Explorers Reflect and Review9 January 2026 (by Menna (Menna)) |
Fun in the snow!
Welcome back! We hope you all had a peaceful and restorative Christ mas break. The children have returned fresh and ready for the start of the year. We welcomed Beth back with some exciting news - she is expecting a baby around Easter. Menna will be continuing to teach in Beagle and Jaime has joined Joanna in Endeavour. Beth will be running interventions in Explorers until Easter.
This week it has been very cold and windy, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. As shared before Christmas, we have started our new PDR and lunch routine, with all the children in Islands, Oceans and Explorers going outside together which has been a great success!
Cook and Shackleton have begun their new English text, Windrush Child by Benjamin Zephaniah which links to our new topic about migration. Beagle class have started their new text - The Matchbox Diary which is based on an Italian immigrant in the USA.
In Maths, Cook has been focusing on estimating and measuring angles and drawing shapes accurately. Shackleton has been learning about area and column multiplication whilst Beagle have been finding multiples and factors of numbers.
Next week swimming will restart for year 5 - please make sure your child wears their swimming kit to school under their uniform to help with the changing on arrival.
Home work:
Beagle - maths - multiplication - multiples and factors sheet, spelling sheet practicing the soft c and ur/ure rules.
Shackleton (Y5) - White Rose workbook page 45 and 47. Please make sure your child returns their spelling books if it is at home. Andy has kept those that have been brought in.
Cook (Y6) - White Rose - page 90-93 and spellings pages 30-31
We hope you have a lovely weekend,
The Explorers team.
