    Explorers reflect and review

30 January 2026 (by Beth Curtis (Beth))

This week we have been focusing on being humble, whilst being curious learners.

As writers, this week Cook and Shackleton have been looking at book reviews, ending the week by writing our own reviews of Windrush Child. We’ve looked at key features, magpied structures, sentence types and vocabulary choices which we have then developed to improve our own writing. In Beagle, we have been continuing to look at the book “The matchbox diary”, thinking about the migration of the Italian family to New York, creating our own dramatic scenes of the storm on board the ship.

As mathematicians, Beagle have been using their multiplication number facts to solve a range of problems. Shackleton have been multiplying fractions by integers, fractions and mixed numbers. Cook have been studying line graphs, focusing on problem solving with the information they provide.

As historians, Beagle have been looking at the 1980’s in Oxford, comparing this to life in Oxford now. We were sorting photographs of recognisable places, looking at the changes.

Across the school this week, we have been focusing on being humble, whilst being curious learners. Endeavour have been creating presentations, using google slides, to share what being humble means to them.

This week we sent out letters for our exciting trip to London, in March. Please let your child’s teacher know if you have not received this. This is live on Bromcom. Thank you to everyone who has already paid and returned the permission slip.
