    Oceans Reflect and Review

    27 February 2026 (by Beth I)

That's the first week back after half term complete!

We have jumped straight back into learning this week and have been preparing for our assessments.
In maths, we have started to look at fractions, including both unit and non-unit fractions. Towards the end of the week, we looked at comparing and ordering unit fractions, which can be very tricky. At the start of lessons, we spent time working on our oracy and talking like mathematicians. In fluency, we are now working in year groups as the year 4's get ready for their multiplication test, which will be in June.
In writing, we have been completed our narrative plans and have started writing our stories. We have really enjoyed the freedom and creativity of this and along the way, we have checked and edited our work, particularly when looking at spellings, grammar and punctuation.
In topic, we have been scientists and have continued to look at magnetism. Throughout this topic, we have made predictions, set up small experiments and recorded our findings and data. Next week, we will move onto another unit or science and will be looking at biology.
    Notes
Teachers have planned next week's assessments with breaks in mind to help support all children. As well as this, time will be dedicated to check in with children and ensure that they have time to reflect on what they have completed and share any worries or questions about upcoming tests. Teachers only ask that children try their best and there will be lots of celebrations throughout the week for children showing resilience. To support your child, please ensure that they are getting a good night's sleep and have snacks in school. It is also really  important that children are in school in time so that teachers can settle them, prepare them for the day and answer any questions that they may have.
Home learning this week is all on Sumdog. This is so that teachers can set specific tasks to support each child in preparation for next week. If you need your child's login details, please email the oceans account for further support.
    Have a lovely weekend
