    Oceans Reflect and Review

    13 March 2026 (by Beth I)

This week in English, we have started our new unit on The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The children have engaged in oral storytelling, story mapping, and responding to illustrations. They have also practiced crafting sentences, building vocabulary, and exploring character perspectives, which has helped strengthen their comprehension and creative expression.

In Maths, Indian are coming to the end of our fractions unit. Arctic will spend another week looking at adding and subtracting fractions. Over the course of this maths unit, students have been consolidating their understanding of equivalent fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, and identifying fractions of shapes and quantities. Next week, Indian will begin our new unit on mass and capacity, where children will explore measuring and comparing different weights and volumes.

As biologists, we continued to examine the inner structure of flowers. The children have enjoyed a hands-on activity creating their own 3D flowers inspired by the work of artist Georgia O'Keeffe. This allowed them to explore both scientific observation and artistic creativity.

On Wednesday, both the Indian and Arctic classes participated in a cyber safety workshop. The session focused on ways to stay safe online, understanding digital footprints, and making responsible choices when using technology. The children were highly engaged and contributed thoughtfully to discussions about online safety.

    Homework:

Both Indian and Arctic class have been set both spellings and Maths

Indian class have also been given their login details for Oxford Reading Buddy. Please encourage your child to use this platform daily, as it will help support and develop their reading fluency, comprehension, and confidence. Arctic already have these logins, but if you would like your child’s details again, please email the Oceans account. Regular use of Oxford Reading Buddy will allow the children to practise reading a range of books at their own level while also completing comprehension activities that strengthen their understanding of what they read. Even a short session each day can make a big difference to their progress. Thank you for your continued support.

    Next week:

Both Indian and Arctic  we have been given the opportunity to attend the Curiosity Cube workshops, which take place at Greyfriars School.

Indian will be attending this on Tuesday 17th March 2026 leaving school at 10:00 and returning at 11.30.

Arctic will attend on Friday 20th March 2026 leaving school at 8:30 returning at 9:30, so the children must be in school on time to be registered before heading round to the workshops.

Next Friday is the Oceans Wales Residential. More information will be given later in the week, although packs have been sent out to parents with the information for the trip. If you have any questions about this, please ask.

    Notices:

If your child is in KS2 and you pay for school lunches from after Easter you must pay in advance for the lunch. All current balances need to be clear by Wednesday 25th March.  More details to follow.

Headlice - there have been a couple of cases of Headlice, please check your child’s hair and treat if necessary. If a child’s hair is long enough to be tied up, it needs to be up.

    Have a lovely weekend

    Oceans Team.
