Moorhens Reflect and Review23 April 2026 (by Lisa Brown (LisaB)) |
Let's get cooking!
The Moorhens have had an amazing start to the new term. Last week we focused on building a Growth Mindset, using the book 'The Dot', to move from a set mindset of 'I cant do it' to a growth mindset of 'I cant do it... yet!'.The week was filled with art activities and conversations around our personal, social and emotional understanding. The children thought about their own qualities, skills and the value they bring to our school community.
This week we have thought about rules! We talked about the rules in different games, the rules of our school and other rules that are followed in other places and in different sports. We thought about instructions and how they differ from rules. We then used our ability to follow instruction into our maths class as we took part in a range of cooking opportunities. The children followed instructions to make Pizza - scoring 23/10! burgers, fruit salad and gooey chocolate brownies. This helped us to understand fractions better but also linked to our continued discussions around developing a growth mindset, using our personal power and responsibility.
Next week we are thinking about others and how our actions can make a difference. The children have agreed to take part in a gardening project in which they will create a digging and planting area for some of our younger children. They will also be setting up a sensory garden too! The Moorhens have been very engaged in their learning, helping to create new ideas as they shares their creative thoughts and views. It is very exciting to see how the garden turns out next week!
Have a wonderful evening and a lovely weekend.
