    Oceans Reflect and Review

    1 May 2026 (by Beth I)

The sunshine this week has brought lots of smiles, with the children enjoying the warm weather during play and learning,

This week, as writers, we have continued exploring our text The Rhythm of the Rain. The children have been working hard to identify spelling rules and patterns within the text, as well as using the correct forms of verbs across different tenses. We have also looked closely at characterisation, focusing on both inner and outer characteristics to develop a deeper understanding of the characters.
As mathematicians, we have continued our unit on decimals. The children have been learning to partition decimals and round them to the nearest integer. They have shown good progress in understanding place value within decimal numbers. Next week, we will continue this unit and begin to apply our knowledge to money.
As artists, we have taken inspiration from Quentin Blake. Arctic. The children have closely studied his unique drawing style and had a go at creating their own characters. They focused on using expressive features, sketch-like and wiggly lines, and showing character through position and key details. They also explored using a limited range of bold, bright colours, including mixing colours to achieve the desired effect.
We have also been working on our computing skills and creating short animations. We have designed storyboards, settings and characters and then used iMotion to capture frames which then became short animated videos.
Next Friday, Beth will be taking children from Arctic and Indian to take part in a workshop at Christchurch Cathedral. Back at school, Sereeta will be leading extra curricular sessions. If your child has brought a letter home, please return it signed early next week.

Enjoy the bank holiday weekend, see you on Tuesday.
