Islands Weekly Reflect and Review3 March 2023 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren)) |
This week Islands have been inspired by the famous artist Henri Rousseau. They have worked incredibly hard to create their own masterpiece, that is unique and personal to them.
In topic this week, we have explored a variety of different effects, techniques and skills to recreate the painting 'Tiger in a Tropical Storm'. In our first session, we focused on how we could make effects using the palms of our hands. We also thought about how we could create different shades of green by mixing primary colours together. The children collected their own natural objects to create their 3D jungle scene on top of their background, using materials to collage. And lastly, they used a layering technique like Henri Rousseau, to paint a tiger.
Next week, we will be starting the project 'The Little Prince'. The children will start by looking at where we live and at the places our friends and families live around the world. We will think about how what similarities and differences different countries have. On Tuesday, the researchers from our project will be coming to lead an activity where we will draw and photograph the places the little prince visits when arriving in Oxford (country, city and neighbourhood/street, school). We will also draw the places that he visits and create a stop motion video ‘The adventures of the LP across Oxford’.
