    Islands Weekly Reflect and Review

16 June 2023 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren))

This week as artists we have explored architecture and created some of the most famous landmarks found in the United Kingdom. We started the week by thinking about what it means to be an architect and how we could embody this in our own designs and creations.

Once all of the children had decided which landmark they wanted to use as their creative inspiration, they sketched their designs and added their own ideas. They then thought about what materials they would need and why the materials chosen were the best options. Lastly, as architects, the children brought their designs to life by creating their landmark including every fine detail they had planned.

This week we have also explored making patterns and structures in dance. We thought about what symmetry was and how to mirror our partners shapes. We created different objects with our bodies such as a table, cross, bed, chair and bicycle.

Next week as historians we will be asking the questions - is there a difference between the schools today (in our local area) and in the time that our parents and grandparents went to school. Also, would you prefer to have been in (our local) schools now or then?

If you or your child’s grandparents would like to come in on Wednesday afternoon to talk about your time at school and allow the children to ask questions, please let Lauren know. Alternatively, please send in any pictures or written experiences of your time at school, that may differ from our school now.

This afternoon all chidren in Islands had a go at logging into their Oxford reading buddy and their Sumdog accounts. Please support your children to complete their daily reading and maths in order to reach their full potential and to get their extra golden time in Friday afternoon.

Any issues, please speak to a member of the Islands team on Monday.
