Islands Reflect and Review6 October 2023 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren)) |
During RE this week, we answered the question - who should we follow? We explored what it meant to be a leader and a follower and what we believed as a class.
The children took part in daily activities that gave them the opportunity to be a leader and a follower. There were some very strong leaders in Islands class, who were kind, thoughtful and fair. In each lesson, we talked about the qualities a good leader should have and looked at the leaders in our own lives and discussed if we thought they were good leaders.
The children were kind and caring towards each other during our philosophy for children (P4C) session where we discussed our own faiths, religions and beliefs regarding who we do or do not follow. One child said, “We can follow God or Allah and still be good people, because if our leaders are good like they are, we will be good too”. It was great to hear the children talk so passionately and openly about their faiths and beliefs during this RE unit.
Next week as scientists, we will identify, name, draw and label the basic parts of the human body and say which part of the body is associated with each sense. During the week we will use our senses to explore our beautiful school grounds. We will also be taking part in a blindfolded activity to see how well we can identify food and drink with our taste and smell. On Wednesday we will also be creating our own sensory bottles that we will use the following week for a mindfulness activity.
Please send your child with a small empty bottle to create their sensory bottle next week in class.
Thank you for all of your support with your child’s home learning, especially their White Rose Maths. It is really supporting children to consolidate their learning and as we mark their work together in class, they are showing pride in their work.
Islands parents are invited in on Tuesday 10th October at 2:50 for our yearly parents meeting. During this meeting we will go through expectations for the children, what the children will be learning, what they need in school and what the age related expectations are for children to attain in year 1 and 2. We will also answer any questions that you may have regarding KS1. This meeting will start promptly at 2:50 in the Dock (enter via the reception). Islands children will be sat at the front as they would in gathering and can be collected at the end of the meeting. Any additional children attending will need to sit with their adult.
Have a lovely weekend,
Islands team.
