Islands Weekly Reflect and Review3 November 2023 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren)) |
This week in Islands, we have been exploring religious symbols and asking the question- do they mean the same to everyone?
The children started the week by looking at symbols that they were familiar with. We asked and answered questions about why people choose to wear symbols and what is symbolic about certain items of clothing in different religions.
Today children created their own symbols and then shared with the class why they chose to create their own symbol. We had some interesting and creative symbols created.
Next week, we will be exploring the importance of the poppy as a symbol. We will be representing Remembrance and begin to understand what is being remembered and why through stories, drama and provision challenges.
Due to the children moving onto new units in their Maths lessons, we have not sent the Maths books home as homework this week. It is very important that the children understand how to complete their homework and therefore we want their homework to match what they have already been taught in class. All children have been sent home with their CLICs and Learnits for them to complete as homework. They have also been set a task on Sumdog.
Additionally, due to the excitement of birthday treats and golden time, the purple books were left on the side and have not been sent out. We will ensure that these are returned on Monday. Please do not worry if you are unable to complete homework this weekend.
School pictures will be on Tuesday 7th November. Please ensure your child is in their smartest uniform.
Have a great weekend,
Islands team
