Islands Weekly Reflect and Review24 November 2023 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren)) |
This week as Scientists we have worked scientifically through exploring the properties of different household materials such as kitchen roll, cloths, paper towels, toilet tissue, tin foil and newspaper.
We made predictions about which would be best at mopping up a spillage of water. We investigated which papers are the most absorbent by choosing a method and working in pairs to understand the different reasons why people may need to use absorbent materials.
In our investigation, we worked collaboratively and listened to each other's ideas and predictions. This was a challenge for some as we did not always agree with what our partner thought.
On Thursday, we conquered fears in our gymnastics lesson. All children were given the opportunity to test their strength on the wall bars and create a routine using a variety of shapes and movements that we have been exploring in gymnastics. We discovered just how competitive and supportive we all are.
Next week, we will continue to be scientists, exploring natural and man made materials. This weekend, children are encouraged to collect natural materials for their very own experiment on Monday.
