    Islands Reflect and Review

22 March 2024 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren))

This week we continued to explore the Great Fire of London through our Mantle of the Expert task as fire wardens. We took on the task of rebuilding London after the fire, thinking about how we could ensure the same thing could never happen again.

The children remade the bakery on Pudding Lane. They could not believe there was no electricity or lights, so this was a little tricky to imagine. They did not let this get in the way of making brilliant new bakeries, with fire guards and less flammable materials.

Next week is our RE block week, where we will be asking the big question- Why was Jesus welcomed like a king or celebrity by the crowds on Palm Sunday? We will be exploring what qualities people we admire might have and how this links to the qualities Jesus has. We will also explore why Jesus might have been special or important to the people around him. To end the week, we will retell the story of Easter.

Easter Bonnet Parade- Thursday 28th March. All children in Anemones, Coral Reef and Islands will participate in the Easter Bonnet Parade to showcase their bonnets.

Please can all Easter Bonnets be in school on Wednesday 26th March, all bonnets will be judged in the afternoon by our school ambassadors for 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize in each group. ALL children will receive a chocolate treat for participating.

All parents are invited to watch our parade- we ask that you arrive at the Coral Reef entrance at 10:45am where an adult will guide you to stand around the playground. We ask that you remain standing around the outside until an adult has called you to collect your child at the very end. To ensure the children remain safe, we will encourage them to stay with their class and not come to you during the parade. The gate will be locked once all children are inside the playground so any late parents unfortunately will not be allowed in to ensure we keep the children safe.

All belongings will be sent home with the children on Wednesday and therefore we ask that you do not send your child into school on Thursday 28th March with any belongings as they will not come back inside and will go home from the playground.

    Notices:

Reminder - All children should be in their school uniform everyday. As we begin to move into the Spring/Summer weather and begin to purchase Summer uniforms for your child, please ensure it is the correct uniform before making any purchases. We are aware that it is very difficult to find maroon/burgundy school dresses, so it has been decided that the summer dresses can also be PINK. We have checked and PINK gingham school dresses are available at Argos, Sainsburys, and Asda George.

All summer dresses should be maroon/burgundy or pink NOT RED as this is not our school uniform.

    Parents Evening - 17th April 3-7pm.

All parents meetings will be via phone appointment at an appointed time. All children will be given a time for Wednesday 17th April, informing you when their class teacher will call.

If you would prefer to have a google meet appointment, rather than a phone call. Please email your child’s phase email address to arrange a meeting at the given time. Additionally if you are unavailable at the allotted time, please let your child's class teacher know so that they can act accordingly.
