Awesome science experiment in Islands!8 May 2024 (by Zenith Zespinoza (Zenith)) |
In Islands we were excited to investigate growing a seed without soil using the hydroponic system!
We learnt the concept of hydroponic farming using a zip-lock bag in order to recognize that soil is not necessary for growing a plant as long they are exposed to the light, water and air. We did this by observing the difference in growth between the plants exposed to daylight and the plants which have been kept in the cupboard.
Also, we discuss how using this hydroponics system provide environmental benefits, increasing food production within urban areas and countries lacking agricultural land. Now, it is time to grow our own cress hydroponically.
We are checking our beans in a bag each day to see how they were changing. The children noticed that seeds started to germinate! Now, we are growing our own cress seeds using the same system, I wonder what will happen to them?
If you are curious to know how our plants have grown over the past week, ask your children.
