Islands Weekly Reflect and Review17 May 2024 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren)) |
This week as artists we explored portraits and pop art, specifically looking at famous artists Andy Worhol and Thomas Gainsborough.
We started the week exploring emotions and what could be seen in various different portraits. We learnt that painters of portraits do not paint the person smiling or
showing their teeth. They believe that a fully relaxed face, that isn’t smiling, allows the person looking at the painting to gaze around the face, appreciate the features and discover the emotion and mood of the person who was painted.
Like Thomas Gainsborough, we attempted to display the likeness, personality and the mood of the person we were sketching during our lessons. We then added a pop art element and used colours that we felt matched the mood and personality of the chosen person.
Thank you to everyone who sent in their child’s portrait. Next week each child will spend their morning settling time sketching their portrait ready for a big reveal at the end of the week. If you have not yet sent a picture of your child, please send to islands@stfrideswides.co.uk
Next week is our RE block week and we will be asking the big question- Is Shabbat important to Jewish children? We will start the week talking about our favourite day of the week and say why it is special. We will retell the creation story and how it relates to the Sabbath. We will explore why a Jewish family might go to a synagogue to celebrate Shabbat.
Notices:
Chicken Pox- We have a number of cases in Islands.
An itchy, spotty rash is the main symptom of chickenpox.
If your child develops these symptoms they will need to stay away from school until all the spots have formed a scab. This is usually 5 days after the spots appeared. Please inform school via attendance@stfrideswides.co.uk
