Islands Weekly Reflect and Review28 June 2024 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren)) |
Another great learning week for Islands phase.
This week we began ‘Get Set ‘ which is the home of the official Team GB and ParalympicsGB youth engagement programme, Path to Paris. This has inspired the children to think about the Paris 2024 Olympic games. We have created teams and started to log our physical activity as we embark on a virtual journey all around the world.
In English this week we continued to use our text ‘The Queens Hat’ to support our sentence writing for our stories that we will write in the next couple of weeks. We have continued to deepen our knowledge of London Landmarks and the Monarchy to help inspire us in our independent writing.
In Science we investigated similarities and differences in the animals that can be found in the United Kingdom and Australia. We identified and named a variety of common animals that are birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals and invertebrates. During our provision choosing time, we sorted various animals and researched facts to help us build them homes using junk modelling.
Next week as designers we will continue to master practical skills by making portable snacks for our Royal Celebration party which will now be on Wednesday 3rd July afternoon. As designers we will take inspiration from existing products and think about a product’s purpose, its users and how it is designed. We will cut, peel and grate ingredients safely and hygienically. During the week, we will recreate our own snacks, designing our end product for the celebration party.
We will be making some snacks in class for our party but if you would like to contribute to the celebration please send any party food item that your child might like to share with their friends on Wednesday 3rd July. This might be something common in the United Kingdom or a food that celebrates your own culture from a different country.
