Islands Weekly Reflect and Review8 November 2024 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren)) |
This week has been short but full of joy for islands!
We welcomed Zenith back in Tahiti and it has been a very successful week for us all. We began exploring something new and exciting called ‘Play Projects’. Play Projects are an amazing way to unearth the magic of children, encouraging them to explore their creativity, collaboration and curiosity right at their heart and they are a brilliant way to create a culture of play within our classroom. Each time the children heard ‘Play Projects, they could not contain their excitement. To ensure we can really embrace this new and exciting framework we would really love to have the following items donated wherever possible -
Junk Modelling (any and all)
Lids- metal, plastic, corks, fabric softener lids.
Wallpaper/Wrapping Paper
String, Wool, Ribbon
Next week we will be taking on the role of Artists sketching and painting different foods. Across the week we will explore famous artists who are well known for paintings and sculptures inspired by food- Giuseppe Arcimboldo (1526-1593) Italian portrait artist, Johannes Vermeer (1632-75) Dutch Baroque artist, Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) French Post-Impressionist painter and Carl Warner (born 1963) British contemporary artist and photographer.
Week Beginning 18th November - All children will be taking part in our Design and Technology Cooking Unit. To ensure every child is able to bring home their cooking creations, please ensure your child is sent into school with TWO named containers. They will first follow instructions to successfully make a delicious couscous dish, using a variety of different ingredients. The following week they will create their own recipe and combine ingredients of their own choosing.

Reminder- There is no parking available on school grounds at any time of the day, especially during drop off and pick up times- unless you have a displayed blue badge or you have an agreement with school. Homelearning -
Sumdog- Homework Set in each child’s Tasks Tab
Maths- This week children have been sent home with their current Big Maths to work on.
Due to some confusion and inconsistencies, there will be no spelling/white rose homework this week. This will give Island’s class teachers the opportunity to check all children’s books and ensure that moving forward there is no confusion and the correct homework/pages etc are set. Thank you for your support and patience with this.
Thanks, Islands Team
