    Islands Weekly Reflect and Review

6 December 2024 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren))

This week the children in islands have taken on a role within the Enchanted Wood Wildlife Trust, for our client Granny, the Wolf.

Grandma, who, having narrowly escaped the clutches of the wolf, was worried that something was not right within the woods she lives in. Wolves don’t live in these woods and never have. She wanted to find out why the Wolf is here to satisfy her own curiosity. She also voiced that she has compassion for the creature.

She asked the Enchanted Wood Wildlife Trust to find his hiding place in the woods and solve the mystery. She trusted Islands team to do the ‘right thing.’ Asking the big inquiry questions -

"Moral – Is it right for one animal to eat another?

Moral – Are humans just another type of animal?

Historical – Have wolves lived in woodlands in the recent past?

Social – Should you talk to strangers?

Historical – How long does it take for a wood to grow?"

The children in islands have taken their role very seriously. They have explored maps, shared traditional tales and stumbled across the Faraway Tree and the numerous kinds of lands that it might lead to, including those where wolves live…

Next week will continue this journey through our Mantle of the Expert inquiry lessons.
