Islands Weekly Reflect and Review24 January 2025 (by Lauren Arbour (Lauren)) |
As Geographers this week we have explored and investigated some of the amazing weather around the world by exploring videos and reading about cyclones, tornadoes, snow storms, hot deserts, floods and other incredible weather features.
We have built our geographical vocabulary, identifying patterns and identifying some key features of the places we study. The children in Islands explored the roles of meteorologists and what their job is. The children acted as meteorologists and made predictions about what the weather will be like for the week. To support this, the children in Sumatra worked in groups to make rain gauges and placed them outside to measure how much rainfall there was each day. This was then recorded on our weekly rainfall tracker.
In Tahiti and Fiji, children took on the role of presenting the weather as a weather forecaster. They took this role very seriously and used their knowledge and vocabulary to really share what they had been learning in class.
This week, in maths, the children in Sumatra have been exploring 1 less and 1 more than a number. We used counters and cubes on number tracks and tens frames to represent numbers and physically added 1 more and took away 1. We consolidated this during our outdoor time, where we were passengers on a bus and we waited for one passenger to board and one to exit. We then practiced counting how many passengers were on our school bus!
