Islands Reflect & Review5 December 2025 (by Stefan Mitsis (Stefan)) |
What a wonderful week we have had in Islands as we approach the end of Autumn 2. The children have continued to work incredibly hard and are showing great excitement as we move into the festive period.
This week, the children have been practising their Christmas songs in preparation for our Christmas Carol Concert next week. They have been working extremely hard to learn the melodies and actions, showing real enthusiasm, joy, and confidence during rehearsals. The classes are very excited to perform in such a special venue, and it has been lovely to see how much pride they are taking in their singing. If you get a moment at home, please practise Away in a Manger with your child—this will really support the whole performance and help the children feel calm, prepared, and confident on the day.

In Design & Technology, the children have been finalising their Christmas cards using slider mechanisms. They explored how sliders work, planned their own ideas, and created designs that show real creativity and individuality. The children demonstrated excellent perseverance—carefully cutting, assembling, testing, and adjusting their mechanisms to make sure they moved smoothly. They cannot wait to bring these home and share them with you.
Next week, the children will be shifting their topic focus to Science, where they will begin learning about habitats and food chains. They will explore how animals depend on one another for food, identify simple food chains (for example: plant → minibeast → bird), and learn about the different places animals live. This will be a great opportunity for the children to build their scientific vocabulary and understanding in a practical, hands-on way.
We are very proud of the children’s hard work and enthusiasm as we move into the final weeks of this term.
